Pressure Washing Entrepreneurs Can Help With Government NPDES Permits
If you own a pressure washing business one of the smartest things you can do is get involved with the local and regional enforcement for storm water environmental laws. The reason being is they do not understand the washing process of the industry and you can assist them with pertinent information. Secondly you learn about opportunities in the market and third, you can prevent really bad legislation which could potentially put you and your business out of work. I have always been involved in these issues because I believe in clean water, my company has to be on the leading edge of these laws due to the market sectors we wash in. Let me give you an example. My company; The Car Wash Guys have worked with the California Regional Water Quality Control Board in Phase II of the NPDES permits for the 8 counties and 41 municipalities and sixteen areas of the Central Coastal Region (Region 3). On March 1st, 2003 all municipalities and Counties in California's Central Region had a deadline to complete their final plans for their NPDES Permit. Having served on such committees with Water Resource and Storm Water Management Executives and Consultants, I understand the need for good information and was able to easily assist with the knowledge they needed. We have sat in on countless hours in many regions and helped out in many states with information to make appropriate laws and rules to protect our water supply without hurting business and industry in an effort to compile responsible rule making while keeping the water clean. This is being done to prevent beach closures from Urban run-off problems. Beaches in Santa Cruz, CA and Santa Barbara County, CA have been closed previously from Urban run-off contaminants. There are issues from e. coli bacteria and organic compounds to asbestos and petroleum distillates. It is a serious issue for Sea Life, the Fishing Industry and local swimmers. Many people from Central Valley in the summer come to the shores of beautiful Central Coastal, CA to escape the heat. We met with Ms. Jennifer Bitting, Official Water Resource Control Engineer in the California Regional Water Quality Control Board's Region 3 Head Quarters located in San Luis Obispo, CA. We discussed the 8 State Enforcement Officer's duties for the area and how these new changes gave municipalities the responsibility and power to regulate their local run-off issues. Each municipality has a wide variety of issues from insecticide issues (usage among farmers is at an all-time low), Golf Course fertilizer run-off, Wineries, Cattle and livestock issues, processing plants, Industrial users and surface cleaners. We also discussed the Car Wash Fundraiser Issues of which we are the experts in the field. Christopher Stevens and Mark Fong have put in tireless hours in promoting clean beaches with their CBI (Clean Beach Initiative) Program involving over 38 Coastal California Beaches. Some of the most important and pristine beaches on the West Coast. They were instrumental in getting AB 2434 passed by California State Assembly Members Pavley and Nakano. As you may be aware Car Wash Guys supported this funding to keep the pollution away from the beaches and not the situation get out of hand. You can support such efforts to, having a good understanding of the pressure washer business, methods and reality of surface cleaners and their operations. Although The Car Wash Guys are not total environmentalists, we do believe in clean water and see no need to pollute the Earth when there are simple BMPs that can be used to mitigate any hurtful contamination. We are for reasonable controls, at reasonable costs, responsible government, free market productivity and everyone enjoying the future Utopia we all seek as Americans. It is wise for you to makes sure your thinking is here and that you do your part to keep the environment clean; you can start by getting involved, developing proper environmental controls and Best Management Practices. Six Key Principles of Corporate Accountability The foundation of any business transaction is the promise of fair deal. In complex organizational relationships, it is all too easy to lose sight of the existence and terms of this deal. On the surface, that employer/employee relationship, called a job, is a fair deal wherein the employer's money is traded for the employee's time and talent. The deeper reality, however, is that the employer is actually trading resources for a set of desirable results, which the employee is expected to deliver. The promise to faithfully deliver as agreed by both parties is the essence of accountability. Going Self-Employed ? How Good Is a Business Plan To Your Business? You know you need a business plan. You probably realize that it is one of the best ways to get your business up and running. No matter what your business is, a business plan can help to focus its direction while providing the information you need to get moving. The most important thing a business plan will do is to provide your financial backers with a reason to give you their approval. It will show them how you plan to work your business. Financing Business Expansion for Your Small Company How you finance the expansion of your business is important. Borrowing and understanding the consequences of borrowing for your financing is extremely important. If you are going to borrow the money to finance the expansion of your business, you need to make sure that you are not going to get yourself into a cash crunch situation. This is where you are going to have a lot of money coming in from new business completed and invoiced but not have enough current cash flow. When you borrow you will be financing new equipment, locations, signage, or perhaps a new work truck on a credit line, lease or loan payments. The initial payments are going to be due before you get your increased income from the expansion in. This can be a major critical problem and we do not want this to happen to you. Balanced Scorecard Strategy Map With the help of balanced scorecard strategy map, it is very easy to design the organization goals and build business strategies. Balance scorecard and strategy map are interrelated with each other. Strategies map is the foundation to design business strategies or perspective. Using strategy map, you can design the strategies and using balanced scorecards you can build business models. How to Develop a Successful Board of Advisors (...and Why You Should!) In today's rapidly changing and highly competitive markets, many privately held companies are creating outside advisory boards to give owners and CEOs fresh, knowledgeable advice. Even for small businesses, setting up an advisory board can give you a significant advantage over competitors that are relying solely on internal talent. An experienced and well-connected board of advisors can help your business grow and prosper in ways you've never imagined. What is a Board of Advisors? Urban Flight in Ohio Many of Ohio's downtown areas are in need of upgrading as folks pack up and move to the suburbs. Many downtown revitalization projects are currently going on there. Competition for sales tax, real estate, middle-income housing and quality of life is a power struggle, urban flight has been growing in Cincinnati and we do not see that stopping, but the expansion in the suburbs is very strong indeed. Mastermind Your Way to Success What do Mark Victor Hansen, Robert Allen, Anthony Robbins, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Ben Franklin have in common? How To Get More Business During The Winter Months Business seems to drop, slow or even stop during the winter months. As tourist traffic slows or stops during the winter months so does the incomes of many local business owners. The first step in overcoming this problem begins in your brain (don't they all?) How to Snuff Out the Competition Without Leaving a Mark Does the competition drive you crazy? Communication Strategy During A Time Of Strategic Planning "Rubbish!" shouted the large, aggressive man in the red-striped shirt (we had to pay attention to him because he owned the company). Business Disaster? Wont Happen to Me As fast as you can say business disaster, your business can go up in smoke. That's what happened a while back to Castle Carpet One. Gone were thousands of dollars worth of equipment and carpet, plus two smaller businesses that were housed in the same building. Luckily the owners, Larry and Diane Cox, had plenty of business insurance to cover their physical losses. But they lost their most important business asset - customer records - because of failed back up systems. Rebuilding their customer base will be tough and the long-term revenue impact is hard to measure. What Every Service Provider Ought To Know About Writing A Business Plan It's easy to lose sight of what needs to be communicated to prospective investors when writing the various sections of a business plan. Successful business owners/entrepreneurs use each section of their business plan to work up interest, to present arguments and, most important, to build trust and confidence. Laying It Out On Paper You might be thinking to yourself, "Why should I waste my time writing a business plan? I know what (web designers, freelance writers, professional organizers) do!" Knowing intellectually what your industry is all about and pinpointing exactly where you want your business to go are two entirely different propositions. Art of Succession Planning Succession planning, like any business acumen, is both an art and a science. That is to say, there are many proven strategies that can and must be followed so that successful transition can occur. The Power of Planning I am surprised how few sales professionals, independent consultants, and small business owners take the time to plan the strategy for their business. Most people spend more time writing out a grocery list or planning a vacation than they do planning the direction or outcome of their business. Many will determine a vague or general idea of what they want to accomplish but very few actually identify the specific action steps they will need to take in order to achieve their goals. I'm not suggesting you create a 25-30 page business plan like a good friend of mine writes every year, but I do recommend that you begin outlining the goals you want to accomplish and how you plan to get there. Becoming Wise - Wild & Free - Writing A Successful Business Plan - Part 2 - Do It In Steps So you've decided to write your own business plan because you know the value that the experience will give you. With the books and software that are out there today you can probably sit down and complete the plan in a day or so, right? Plug in the numbers, add the notes, write the whole narrative (story), print it and get it out to the banks or investors. Will and Vision Remember Chux? The disposable diaper that took the market by storm in 1932? Secrets Of Effective Brainstorming Have you been in a "brainstorming" session where each person just defended their own ideas? Worse is when people don't suggest ideas at all, for fear they'll be attacked. That's no way to brainstorm. Brainstorming is using the power of many minds, and ideas should flow freely and trigger other ideas. How do you make that happen? How to Start A Business Plan A business plan precisely defines your business, identifies your goals, and serves as your firm's resume. The basic components include a current and pro forma balance sheet, an income statement, and a cash flow analysis. It helps you allocate resources properly, handle unforeseen complications, and make good business decisions. Because it provides specific and organized information about your company and how you will repay borrowed money, a good business plan is a crucial part of any loan application. Additionally, it informs sales personnel, suppliers, and others about your operations and goals. |
